Less words today. I helped out with registrations and list checking for the 3 events today (Overproof, Make Mine a Double and Last Call), and helped set-up/tear down a few tables between rounds. That gave me the afternoon to wander the tables, admire the models and watch some fantastic games. I did manage to squeeze in two Punch Bowl games though, and they were a blast.
The only sour point to the entire day is that it appears someone may have walked away with someone else’s Dominar Rasheth. I would hope that he has only been picked up by accident, and not stolen.
Game 1 – Harkevich
This game was against Michael, one of two players near certain to get maximum points in the Bowl. He needed Skorne to get closer to having played against all factions, so I threw together a 25pt Morghoul1 list to play. It was a good game, with Paingivers lashing a Drakhun, Morghoul forgetting he had Admonition on him for precisely when Harkevich moved to attack (Def 19 behind a walls tends to make you cocky) and proceeding to flee before Harkevich who was on a beat-back-a-polooza. Sad Panda Moment #1 is when Black Ivan nimbly dodged away from a charging Gladiator to remain fully functional despite being more than half dead. Sad Panda Moment #2 was when the other Gladiator failed to hit Shocktroopers 5 times out of two turns; and even when he did hit, he’d roll rubbish for damage. Fun game though, I thought I had it in the bag, but Harkevich just kept rolling and getting closer and closer and closer.
Game 2 – Nemo3
This was a 35pt match against Vaughn, who brought all the toys out with Nemo3 and a Stormwall, a Stormclad and some Storm Knights. I’ve never played against Nemo3 (from memory), so I was excited to experience the old man bringing the lightning. To get the practice, I brought out my Absylonia Winds of Change list. Happy Panda Moment #1; Typhon being left on 1 after Vaughn through the kitchen sink at him (YAY for Excessive Healing!) under the feat turn and then Abby feating to completely healing him. Happy Panda Moment #2 came after realising that a Blight Field with an evolved Angelius is REALLY annoying for a Stormwall to attempt to kill. The finish to this game is one of the reasons I love Warmachine/Hordes. Nemo had to Force Hammer Typhon back, exactly enough distance was rolled for him to squash into Abby – then the Storm Guard assaulted her, blasting away with shooty-zap-lightning-swords before the Stormwall lobbed a bombard on her head! Victory for Vaughn, snapped from the jaws of despair.
Now, it’s time for the photo dump. Take a look at the quality of the Mountain King that was submitted for the painting competition at Cancon – he has a gold tooth! (and deserves to be the winner, if you ask me).
