Capital Carnage – Week 3

Kommandant,

As we near the end of the campaign, I fear repercussions from the Empress as our success is not what we would have hoped.
Our lines of communication may have been infiltrated, as communiques from Kommander Sorscha indicated that we should attack the Lanyon Valley with all available troops.
Results would suggest that this was a ploy for the Nightmare Empire to add our troops as fuel for it’s nefarious schemes.

But I get ahead of myself. With many of our officers pulled away on other missions, the campaign was left to Karchev and Sorscha to achieve. At one point, scouts inform me, Karchev was involved with several back-to-back skirmishes; one against Master Tormenter Morghoul, one against Lt Kara Sloan and a final ambush from the Queen of the Broken Coast (with rumours of an additional run-in with Tyrant Xerxis). While Sorscha had a protracted fight against Jarl (a newly risen Trollblood vagrant from the Thornwood).

Morghoul appears to have been sent by the Supreme Archdomina to cripple our warjack production – employing the traitor Orin Midwinter and a fiendish “Agoniser” to devastating effect. See attached requisition for the Greylords to create more cortices to replace those lost. After being attended by a rear support unit of Battle Mechaniks, Karchev was tasked to hold a hill of dubious strategic importance – which he did admirably, despite a rain of gunfire from the Cygnaran elite. Credit must be given to the Greylord Covenant who summoned blizzards to combine with the heavy rain and screen our forces from Sloan. While not inflicting heavy losses, Karchev’s forces held the higher ground without contest. I offer condolences to the widow of Drakhun Pytor, who drew the bulk of Sloan’s gunfire and held out longer than would have been expected. While establishing a foot-hold in Lanyon, Karchev was set upon by Skarre – who having been given both the Nightmare and Death Jack as well as the newly discovered Wraith Engine, dealt another savage blow to the Empire and solidified Cryx’s hold on the valley.

On the other side of the valley, Kommander Sorscha struggled to hold back the fury of Mulg the Ancient, who was under the direction of Jarl. Care should be taken with our communications, as reports indicate Sorscha failed to receive the order to destroy all dire trolls until late in the battle. Fortunately, Jarl was ill-prepared for the icy gaze of Sorscha and my Kossites inform me that she was successful.

This was a week of struggle. No new territories were claimed, though the Skorne Empire has seemingly subjugated Tuggeranong, the Mercenary skum have left Belconnen to be contested while they push south into Weston. The Blight that affected the Inner North last week has cleared, and we expect the push from Everblight to be swift in the final days of the campaign.

Capital Carnage – Week 3

Archdomina Makeda & Master Ascetic Naaresh

Archdomina Makeda

After the fun of the Bronzeback Titan, I thought I’d tackle two Warlocks in the same week!
One was for a game that never happened today, and the other was for the Paint the Target event on Lost Hemisphere.

Master Ascetic Naaresh

Part way through the week I was not entirely happy with these models. The white wasn’t working for me, and the gold was just giving me the shits in general. Today, after putting together Tyrant Xerxis, I realised that it was the orange that wasn’t working out – so I switched it over to be Skorne Red. It invalidates the models to date, but I can always go back if the orange looks out of place on them. I think the switch will help me blend on larger areas of armour/cloth – like that found on Xerxis.

Capital Carnage

Kommandant,

You requested that I observe the contested region of Canberra and report on the strength and position of opposing forces.

From my position over the Woden Valley things look decidedly grim for the Motherland. Everblight spreads his blight far and wide and has already claimed several zones for his diabolical plans. While our forces are equal in size to those of the Legion, constant infighting in the ranks and incursions by smaller nations has meant that we, as yet, have not achieved the level of success mandated by her Empress.

Freezing winds from the Lanyon Valley brought late snow, delaying my force’s arrival on the field of battle. From reports handed to me by my scouts, the Legion have used their natural resilience to the cold to carve a nation right across the Canberra region, claiming Weston, Woden and the Inner North. As you are aware, this means that they control the Industrial, Barracks and a Coal depot – all regions ear-marked by Kommand for our immediate seizure. As of last evening, the Legion now control (but are heavily contested in) the magical sites in Gungahlin and the Tuggeranong Wasteland. An insignificant force of Mercenaries “protects” Belconnen – something we assumed would occur quickly.

As to our forces; they are scattered and without leadership. In response to ongoing hostilities between them, I witnessed Orsus Zoktavir challenge Karchev to a grudge match in the Tuggeranong region – and while Karchev was triumphant, the cost to our forces was immense. Kommander Strakhov lead a strike force into Legion controlled zones, but was halted by a small Menoth force lead by the Harlot of Menoth. Reports from my Kossite allies have reported that Strakhov was captured, but dealt the Zealots a savage blow by disabling the Avatar. I am yet to hear from the two other expeditionary forces, but from all reports the Legion capitalises while the rest of us squabble over their scraps.

I have sent out emissaries to leaders of the Skorne, Trollbloods and, using contacts of the Old Witch, Circle Orboros. I am hoping we can induce the savages into attacking the Legion directly; allowing us time to bring forth more recruits to strengthen our position before the assault that is sure to come. Rumours gathered in Belconnen indicate the the Legion High Command is being withdrawn. Given their successes to date, I find it strange that they are withdrawing and I treat this information with scepticism.

A wounded scout has just entered my tent, and reports that the Old Witch was successful in edging Madrak Ironhide closer to his destiny as the World Ender. By taunting the spirit of the axe, we are hoping to drawn forth the beast within and point this force of nature straight down Everblight’s throat. The sacrifice of our troops will be remembered. As always, the machinations of the Witch astound.

I await further instructions,
For the Motherland!

Paingiver Beast Handlers

Tonight, I polished off these blighters and finally took some decent shots.

Paingiver Beast Handlers

I am loving the feel of the Skorne models at the moment. When viewed as a group, they are really looking good. I did the whites differently to those on the Cyclops Brute – closer to the original Bloodrunner cloth. I feel I “got” the black cloth too – after a couple of attempts, I went lighter than I normally would, and it worked! (not that you can really tell from this photo).

Up next – the horrendously put together, but awesomely posed – Bronzeback Titan.
